Dampier is home to the Red Dog Statue from the famous Aussie movie of the same name.
As we were passing Dampier I wanted to check it out.
The Transit Caravan Park was the cheapest park in the area, so we chose to stay there. It turned out to be in a great location, right opposite the water.
Some may think it’s not the best view or the best park but for that area it was.
Dampier Transit Caravan park
The park is small but friendly. We were behind two other vans but still had glimpses of the water.
You have a choice of 4 electric BBQ’s one of which looks like it has a place to heat pans.

They have a camp kitchen which also houses the washing machine.
Toilets and showers are also in this area as well as the dump point.
In the office you will find a helpful manager. Also a book exchange and souvenirs of the area. Head over the road at sunset for a lovely view.

Drive to Karratha
We had a 20 minute drive to Karratha and headed to Harvey Norman for some bits we needed.
Karratha isn’t as big as I had imagined but does have several of your common shops that small towns usually have.
We grabbed some KFC and headed back to Dampier, stopping at Red Dog to check it out and eat.
