Overland Corner -Historic Pub –

The Overland Corner Pub is on the River Murray. A couple of caravaners recommended that we should visit the Pub and camp free camp down by the river. So it has been on our list for a while.

Overland Camp Site

We arrived on a Monday, therefore we knew the pub would be closed but that’s when we happened to be passing. It’s open Tuesday to Saturday so we hung around another night so we could go to the pub.

A few caravans were scattered down the river and a few people in a car turned up with a couple of tent’s. There are lots of walking tracks around the place, through low laying bush land a trees that look like they are from the set of an end of the world movie.

A couple of house boats were on the river one parked up just enjoying the location and the other with boat pulling ski’s and a doughnut before meandering down the river to their next location.

The Pub

The next day we headed the 700m to the famous Overland Corner Pub for a couple of beers and lunch.

The grounds have some great old farming pieces such as wagon wheels and carts, to name a few. It was lovely sitting in the shade noticing new things around the place every few min.

Jay, the barman is an asset to the pub. Not only is he behind the bar but brings out your meals, brings you shade if you’re in the sun and is in general a friendly helpful guy.

Jay told us that the pub was like a little rabbit warren and that we should have a look around, so we did.

History all around

We had look at four old rooms, each of which had the same old character that you would expect form a building that was built-in 1859.

The walls are made of 1 ½ inch fossilised Limestone and they have two old log fireplace’s.

A ghost or two are meant to have been spotted but we were lucky or unlucky enough not to see them 😉

We did, as usual, take many photos of the inside, but as requested I will leave you to be as surprised as we were of what you will find inside. It’s so worth the visit if you like a little bit of history.

Check out the old car across the road as well I have no idea what it is but it’s very cool.

After our fish and chips $17 and beer’s we strolled back to the river and home. This is a nice quiet location.

When the sun goes down on the shimmering Murray River, the fish are jumping out of the water and the galas are starting their afternoon chatter, it’s almost magical.

    1. Cheers Adrian,
We are finding some great free and cheap spots, some that others are telling us about, this is one of them.
It’s great to have you on board 😀

  2. Sounds great 🙂

    1. It’s a beautiful spot Judith and the pub’s a surprise inside 🙂

  3. A wonderful part of Aussi history.I had fifty people for lunch at the Pub and we were all inside. A little tight! Did you get to check out the Locks in the area? The Lock Keepers have some great tales to tell.

    1. That sure would be cramped fitting 50 people inside but hope you had fun. Didn’t get a chance to see any lock keepers unfortunately maybe on our next lap 🙂
are you sure there wasn’t 51 people ? cause i hear the ghosts show themselves now and then 🙂

  4. I will just leave a “????????” to let you know I am reading your posts. Thank you

    1. Yayyyyy… enjoy 🙂
