Junction Park Theodore is a small but mighty camp near the Dawson River. It’s located about 230km north of Miles and 69km south of Banana. While we were staying near by at the Theodore Showgrounds for the week, we drove to have a look at this camp.
Junction Park Theodore Camping
Drive through the small friendly town, with it’s IGA, Post Office, Cafe, Chemist and servo. Passed the pub to Junction Park. Here you will see the sign for their 7 day short stay camp. There is a donation box by the amenities block so you can support this camp and town.
A few caravans would fit here but I would think you would have to disconnect, depending on your set up. Parking is on grass/dirt and it seems to be a nice quiet spot. You can camp here for 7 days and it’s an ideal spot. No, there’s no power or water to connect to. But, it has a heap more going for it!
Dawson River
Continuing on past the camping area is the reason you would want to camp here. Have a stroll and you pass the river on both sides of you. There is a boat ramp if you want to check out the river or if you want to go fishing.
A couple of rope swings are around the place over trees to swing into the river. However if you want to get into the river a bit more subtly, there is a pontoon you can have a swim off.
The Dawson River has come up high over the years. In 1983 it rose to 3.28m above ground level, in 1956 up 4.09m above ground level while in 2011 the river reached 4.72 meters above ground level.
Amenities
Junction Park Theodore has toilets and showers, not what I was expecting at a this donation camp.
Junction Park Theodore is inclusive when it comes to their amenities as they cater for wheelchair users. They have nice big toilet and shower facilities.
Park Area
The whole grassy park area across from the camp a nice place to be. For kids, there is a playground. Wander a little further and there are heaps of undercover picnic areas.
Picnic areas, BBQ’s, Toilets, Showers, River
Electric BBQ’s are around the place for you to use with great views while cooking.
Firepit & Amenities
We didn’t stay at Junction Park Theodore as we were staying down the road at the Theodore showgrounds (You can’t beat camping for a week with power, water & a dump point for $100) Junction park might only have a small camping area but it does looks like a perfect spot to stay. It certainly has so much going for it.
Maybe head to Theodore for a few weeks as it’s so cheap and so friendly. Head to the pub and check out the cafe and IGA. Support these fantastic small country towns that support us!
