Cumborah donation camp is around 30 minutes from Lightning Ridge. When heading to the nearby trifecta of outback pubs, we went to this nearby camp to check it out.

These three classic Aussie pubs are worth heading to while in the Lightning Ridge area. All have FREE camping. I’ll talk about them later.

Cumborah Donation Camp

From our camp at Opal Caravan Park in Lightning Ridge, we checked out this campsite.

Camping is on red dirt and grass scrub, with trees scattered around the place for some shade. Many vans will fit and you could fit any size rig in here.

A toilet is available 24/7 should you need it. This has the donation box attached for you to show your appreciation to the local community. Adjacent to the toilet are bins, bench and information board.

Kids will enjoy the undercover playground which is over the way from the undercover picnic bench. A rainwater tank is also in this location.

Pubs In The Scrub

Set up camp at Cumborah Donation Camp and have a drive to these three pubs, located in the opal fields. Alternatively you can drive to and camp at each one.

Club In The Scrub – Have a drink, eat, play golf and look around at the quirky fun surroundings

Glengarry Hilton Hotel – We had lunch and a drink here, not to be missed

Sheepyard Inn – Quirky, classic outback pub with something different to see where ever you look, spectacular!

In contrast to Lightning ridge, you can stay cheaply in the surrounding areas. Whether it’s at one of the pub’s free camps or at Cumborah Donation Camp. However, Lightning Ridge has great caravan parks if you choose to go down that path. We have stayed at Opal Caravan Park and Lightning Ridge Caravan Park. Both large, nice parks.
