Flaggy Rock Community & Recreation Centre

FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites

Flaggy Rock is 100km south of Mackay. Having looked at a few places to choose from in the area, we chose the Recreation Centre.

You also have a choice of the beach side camp. The camp by the store is fine and if you want power the local Kui park is convenient also.

Flaggy Rock Recreation Centre

At the gate the sign says to stop and call a number, so we did. Greeted by Ray a friendly, funny bloke who runs the place. After a run down of the where’s and wherefores we had a choice of where ever we wanted to park.

A couple of the points Ray made: Generators down the back between 10am – 7pm and gates are shut between 6pm – 7.30am After picking our site on the well maintained grass we set up for a few days stay. This is a 72 hour camp and is $15 per night.

Why This Camp?

For us Flaggy Rock Recreation Centre was the right choice. As well as the large sites we find it lovely and quiet. Also in the next field cows are wondering around. The odd train passes in the day but not at night.

You also have toilets, shower, swimming pool, playground and local produce is for sale.

Ray’s wife kay has done some amazing and quilting which is for sale.

A Short Drive

We had a drive to the boat ramp and BBQ area which also leads to the beach and it has a park. A 10 minute drive and you have a day at the beach or on the water. The tide wasn’t in when we had a look but we still had a stroll.

Coffee and lunch can be had down the road at the Flaggy Rock Cafe. This is also a paid camp but with far less.

The recreation centre is one we would recommend and would return to.
