24 hour Free Camp

Minilya Location —

Minilya free camp is a large area next to the river. Although most of the year it’s a dry river. It’s a great spot to stop for the night.

Some people pull in to break up the journey, as it’s in a great location.

We passed this camp many times as Larry was working as a bore runner on Minilya Station

Apart from being near Minilya Roadhouse it’s also about 1 hour 30 minute north of Carnarvon. As well as 1 hour south of our visit to Coral Bay.

If you are heading to Coral Bay you could also stay at the free camp at Lyndon River

Free camp

Driving down off the main road you pass the two pit toilets and dump point.

The Long drop is a little smelly and the dump point has no water to clean. Remember this is a free camp, so no complaining here.

The camp is bitumen and large enough for many vans of all sizes.

A few concrete tables and benches are around the camp as are bins. Some fire-pits are available with hot plates for cooking.

Park in the Shady spots under large gum trees or out in the open to charge your solar.

Minilya Roadhouse

The road house is over the bridge. You can get hot food and coffee then sit in there cafe area.

The staff are friendly and do a great job considering the amount of vans and people who pass through.

If you need a powered site the roadhouse also has a camp ground. They charge $30 a night for power and water.

You will probably go pass this camp if you are heading along the west coast. I had a chat to one couple who thought it was a great free camp and I agree.
