Daly Waters
After enjoying Bitter Springs in Mataranka we headed the 153 km South to Daly Waters Pub. You have to love an iconic Australian pub and this one is up there with the best.
Daly Waters Camp
At the time we were here the ground was dirt. Although you come to expect that out here.
We chose to have power and water and picked a spot away from the pub. Being the second van to arrive we had our pick.
The place filled up later but there were still plenty of spots to park.
Toilets and showers are around the camp along with rubbish bins. They have a $4 washing machine, the money from this goes to children’s cancer.
Of course the reason you stop at Daly Waters is the pub, so to the pub we went 🙂
Daly Waters Pub
When you see photos of the pub it’s likely to be the entrance with flowers around it. Then of course there is all the memorabilia that adorn the walls, bar, ceiling and posts.
You can leave a piece of yourself here. No body parts, although they may accept your wooden leg or glass eye 😉
Leave a hat, thongs or the shirt of your back. Stick your undies to the ceiling by the bras.
Some have left driving licences and cash. In any other part of the world that would just be wrong but not here in the outback.
If you don’t have anything to leave, have them take a photo of you for the ugly wall. For $5 you get to be on the wall and all money goes to the Leukemia foundation.
You will also find an honesty shop table with bits you can buy. All money again goes to the Leukemia foundation.
We stopped in and had lunch sharing a very nice lamb and feta toasted sandwich. Across the way are some fuel bowsers.
You may wonder if they are real as they are very random… they are real. Next to it is a shed with an old helicopter parked on top.
Famous pub
We headed back in that night for dinner. At the door was Shane Jacobson the Australian actor. Yep, from kenny the Dunny Man and Little Big Shots.
He was being filmed for something. We later found out there is some kind of world solar challenge going on. Shane must have something to do with it.
I was wanting to get a photo but didn’t want to disturb him. I did in fact sneak a really bad photo later as we were having dinner with him.
Ok, not with him but he was having dinner in the same place so that counts, right? 😉
In the dining area as well as the pub you will find memorabilia as well as a stage and art of sorts. This is also where they cook the great beef and barra.
As the pub is famous, tour buses arrive during the day and share the pools. The pools don’t have much shade but are appreciated in the heat.
The bar also has a coffee making side to it.
We came out of season so the place wasn’t busy. I can imagine it being the hive of activity at other times of the year. We were glad we stopped for the night.

Must be on everybody’s bucket list. Left memorabilia there in the 80s and 90s, sadly long gone on our last visit
Definitely a bucket list place to stop Dave. I guess so many people leave so many things over the years, they have to do a spring clean.
We wanted to leave a Fulltime Caravanning sticker but couldn’t find it, lost in the van somewhere. Have to leave something behind next time 😀
hope to get there some day
