Home Hill Comfort Stop

You will find Home Hill between Bowen and Townsville in north Queensland. It has a huge 48hr stopping area for travelers. I had always read that this was a free stop, until recently when I discovered it has a donation box. So almost free and that’s just as fantastic! After our stay at the Burkedin Cane Farm, just 15 minutes north (see here) we headed back south, stopped at Home Hill to look around.

Parking is along Railway road. This is a very long road parallel to the main street on one side and the railway line on the other. Many caravans and backpacker type vans were parked as far as the eye could see. Pulling over near the end of the road, with still lots of spaces left.

The comfort’s of Home

After grabbing coffee in the coffee shop adjacent to the comfort stop, I checked out some of the wall art. Wow! It add’s a little bit of brightness and fun to the area. It reminded me of the silo art we had seen and loved in Victoria check our silo art camp here

Travelers can use the huge BBQ area. You will find two free electric BBQ’s, Two sinks, a huge preparation area and undercover seating.

24hr toilets and hot showers are available on the same road, as is a laundry. A dump point is close by should you need it. Bins are around the place which is very convenient.

Thought about house sitting as you travel? Check out Aussie House sitters and use our discount Coupon Code “AHS15%off”

Bonus Camp Site

On the main street of town, two pubs are conveniently located, drink or dinner anyone? No need for an uber here. But wait there’s more! A bonus camp is at one of these pubs. The Commercial Hotel also has 48hr camping.

Slide Out Vans

It shouldn’t be a problem for most, but, slide out caravans can not use there slide out. Not if it’s sticking out on the road. Although, this should not be a problem. We raise our slide out bed or roll over it.

On a side note: if your having trouble with your slide out alignment, it could be because you are not fully sliding it in or out. Read here to see how we solve this.

RV Friendly Town
